AR80662 Sustainable Urbanisation
Semester II

This course provides students with an overview of the major contemporary issues of urban sustainability from multiple disciplinary perspectives and across scales -
city/neighborhood/building. It offers students both theoretical and methodological tools in which to explore the key aspects of urban sustainability, their dependencies, synergies and interlinkages. The course specifically introduces students to approaches to foster more sustainable and resilient urban growth, towards ensuring a better quality of urban life, at a time when cities are re-engineering towards big visions. The module uses case studies on trends,
policy and practice. In the end students are given the opportunity to explore versatile stressors in Rwanda’s urban areas, through themes of interest, apply critical thinking and problem solving from gained knowledge, to propose appropriate urban responses for governing and planning urban sustainability in Rwanda, through an academic paper.
