This module discusses changes in development policy. It covers structural adjustment and liberalization policies; ideological disenchantment with the state and state-led development. It also discusses aid fatigue and the decline in development aid and globalization with space reducing technologies in transport and communication. The technological and managerial changes in production of goods and services are also discussed focusing on the growing volume of people, capital and firms that are mobile across the globe, enterprise development and locality development.
Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate good knowledge and understanding of economic growth and development at different levels
- Demonstrate broad knowledge and understanding of local economic development strategic planning process
