GUP2261 Introduction to Spatial Planning
Trimester 2

The Module provides a broad introduction to the field of spatial planning. The Module deals with both the core concepts and theories of spatial planning and the policy context of spatial planning in developing countries.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding

 Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to:

  1. Describe the basic concepts and theories of spatial planning;
  2. Place the spatial planning concepts and theories in a coherent framework;
  3. Apply these concepts and theories for the analysis of spatial planning problems;
  4. Read and analyze the provided texts on urban planning independently and critically;

Application of Knowledge

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to:

  1. Apply the concepts, theories of spatial planning  in real problem of spatial planning in Rwanda;
  2. Identify a specific planning problem in neighbourhoods of  the community; 
  3. Elaborate a plan to solve the identified problem through the major steps of the simplified planning process;
  4. To present the results to the large public
