  • This course looks at modern art and it will enable students to grasp the most challenging theories about art today. Students will be encouraged to engage in critical thinking as well as allow them to develop their own ideas in dialogue with fellow students and lecturers.

  •  Intended learning outcomes:

    1. At the end of the session, you should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding the origin of modernism in art and design
    2. At the end of the module, you should be able to know that industrialization, capitalism rapid social changes in science and the social sciences brought about modernism

    Content:

    Introduction of the module:

    • What is modern movement?
    • What is modernist? What is feminism?
    • Neo-Classicism art and Romanticism- Artists and their artwork e.g. Visual arts paintings sculpture and architecture
    • The origin of modern art
    • Characteristics romanticism.
    • Why did romanticism arise?

    Artists:

    • Francisco Goya Francesco Hayez.
    • Theodore Gericault.
    • John Constable
    • Eugene Delacroix
    • Turner
    • Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres)
    • Henry Fuseli.

    Activity where tutor  and  you engage with this unit outcome:

    Activity 1: The tutor will make introductory remarks, introduction of the module and the syllabus.

    Activity 2: You will go and read about modernism and its origins what movement did modernism replace

    Where and how is this unit outcome assessed?

    • The unit will  be assessed and graded from the assignments/quiz given during the session

    Activity 1: The instructor will demonstrate to the learners the different artists of impressionism and the goals towards deviation
    Activity 2: You will be given quiz and art appreciation exercise.

    Where and how is this unit outcome assessed?

    The UNIT will be assessed after the session through a quiz administered physically in class
