  • Aims of the unit:


    The aim of this unit is to provide an essential knowledge on using Microsoft office access.

    Intended learning outcomes:

    At the end of this unit, you will be able to:

    1. Manage the Access environment.
    2. Build tables and forms in MS Access.
    3. Create and manage queries in Access.
    4. Understand how to generate reports in Access

    What students should do?

    Students should do the following:

    E-tivity 4.1 [2hours]

    This e-tivity 4.1 helps you to be familiar with Microsoft access environment and perfom some basic activities on it.

    Task.

    Create a database and call it task 1.

    Under that created database, create the students records table with the following fields:

    • StudentID
    • FirstName (15),
    • LastName (15),
    • Sex (1)
    • DateOfBirth,
    • Country (10)
    • Department (15),
    • Faculty (15)

    Discuss your answers on discussion forum and interact with your e moderator and Your colleagues (etivity4.1)

    E-tivity 4.2 [2 hours]

    This e-tivity 4.2 intends to help you to clearly understand the use of forms in Microsoft access.

    Task:

    Open the file called etivity4.2 attached here on this unity and do all processes as mentioned. if there is any challenge you meet join the chat called (etivity4.2.0) to interact with your e-moderator.

    E-tivity 4.3 [3 hours]

    This e-tivity 4.4 helps to understand very well the way queries can be generated and produce a report.

    Task:

    By using a table attached here to this topic(called etivity 2) Create queries that will give the following information:

    (i) All male students from Rwanda doing computer science sorted in ascending order using their fname.
    (ii) All female students from Rwanda in a faculty of FSEG sorted in ascending order using their stud_ID.
    (iii) All students doing statistics arranged in ascending order using their Lname.
    (iv) All students from Burundi arranged in their respective department.
    (v) All students who were born in the year 75 and 76.

    Post the answers on the discussion board ( called etivity4.3) by Wednesday at 23h30 for comments from colleagues and then review you file based on comments given and send final copy to e-moderators’ email by Friday at 23h30.
