Dear Participants,
You are most welcome to the module of Introduction to the Medical Parasitology and Helminthology.
The Module Aim
Is to acquaint the participants with the knowledge of medically important parasites and their associated vectors that cause and/or facilitate diseases to human beings with an ultimate aim to engage in effective prevention and control measures to ensure/guarantee safety/comfort and well being of patients and the entire community by extension.
The Module Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module, the participants will be able to:
- Understand the biology of the medically important parasites, particularly helminths, and their vectors and their interactions with the humans;
- Classify the medically important parasite, particularly helminths, and their vectors;
- Identify the significant clinical and epidemiological consequences caused by the parasites, particularly helminths, and their vectors;
- Demonstrate practical skills for diagnosis and other pertinent concepts of medically important parasites, particularly the helminths;
- Illustrate the effective prevention and control measures against the medically important parasites, particularly helminths, and their vectors.

The aim of this module is to provide a fundamental in Analytical chemistry, Clinical chemistry. This module provides a strong background in quantitative and qualitative analysis of biological specimen. It introduces the students to biochemical reactions for detection and measurement of different analytes..
The clinical Chemistry 1 module introduces the students to the topic of chemical detection and measurement in clinical Laboratory. This module provides fundamental knowledge in analytical chemistry and Clinical chemistry, and a strong background in quantitative and qualitative analysis of biomedical specimens.
The module consists of Cytology (structural characteristics of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, functions of cell components), Cell division (mitosis, meiosis, binary fission) and Genetics (autosomal and sex linked inheritance, genetic abnormalities, karyotyping, and DNA extraction techniques).
The module will enable students to describe the biochemical functions and importance of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, vitamins and hormones. Students will be able to appreciate the effects of biochemical processes on the functioning of human body. Students will also be able to relate metabolic disorders with the biochemical reactions.
