Aims of the module

This module aims to explain and apply essential skills of managing mining project, such as efficiently planning, executing, and controlling mining projects to deliver successful outcomes, which is cashflow and ESG performance. . 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be able to:

  • Develop comprehensive project plans incorporating both technical and managerial aspects of mining operations
  • apply industry-standard project management skills, such as mineral economics principles, quantity surveying, cost measurement, and software to schedule tasks, allocate resources (budgeting), and track progress 
  • Analyze and mitigate risks inherent in mining projects through effective risk management strategies
  • Negotiate and draft contracts that align with legal requirements and project objectives, minimizing potential legal disputes
  • Evaluate project performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards

Semester I

           Brief description of aims 

The module aims to provide an understanding of the petroleum system, petroleum as a resource, and the value chain. 

It explores a broad array of tools used in the search and in the production of hydrocarbon reserves.

The course also provides insight into how geologists conduct the search for petroleum resources through the value chain or the life cycle of petroleum resource

Course image GLG 4166 Seismology
Semester I

The module aims at equipping students with in-depth knowledge of seismology in order to prepare them for the operation of seismic stations and more advanced data processing in earthquake seismology. The course covers the basics of the seismometer, signal processing and digitizing equipment exploring broader aspects of seismic observation and networks. Practically, the student learns how to setup a seismometer and recording equipment. This is used to record the Earth micro seismic noise, which in turn serves as the starting point for the computer based data processing. The course deals also with topics such as identification of seismic phases, location of earthquake and determination of its magnitude.
