Welcome to the course of Clinical Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery.
This module exposes the final year dental student to the various surgical procedures and post surgical care included in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as reinforcing the principles and techniques covered in the previous modules on oral maxillo-facial radiology, oral surgery and anesthesia I and II. It also involves introduction to advanced maxillofacial procedures and clinical case study discussions as groups and in class settings.
Students will increase their clinical proficiency in diagnosing, treatment planning and comprehensive patient management in this module. They will also apply their knowledge of the basic sciences with clinical practice that include types of medications and oral/maxillofacial surgical procedures. The dental student will be exposed to the treatment of the dental/maxillofacial patients in a hospital setting and become aware of the basic hospital protocols and the surgical management of the maxillofacial patient in a hospital environment. This will be accomplished through didactic seminars, lectures, clinical presentations and group rotations to the oral/maxillofacial surgery clinics in hospital, ward rounds and operating theatre/ rooms.
