This module aims to provide learners with foundational knowledge of the structure and function of the human body. It develops understanding of anatomical terminology, body organization, cellular structure, tissues, and major organ systems, enabling students to explain how body systems interact to maintain normal physiological function and support movement, health, and physical performance. The module also prepares learners for further study in exercise physiology, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, and athlete welfare.
This course introduces learners to the science of human movement and its application in sport, exercise, and everyday performance. It explores how the body produces, controls, and responds to movement through biomechanical principles and practical assessment techniques. Learners will develop skills in movement analysis, injury prevention, and performance enhancement while gaining an appreciation of ethical and professional practice in exercise biomechanics.
This module introduces the principles and practical application of athlete assessment and performance profiling in sport and exercise. It develops students’ knowledge and practical skills in evaluating health-related physical fitness, conducting standardized fitness tests, interpreting results, and creating performance profiles to identify strengths and weaknesses. The module emphasizes evidence-based assessment methods to support training decisions, enhance athletic performance, and promote long-term athlete development.
This module introduces students to the theoretical and practical foundations of strength and conditioning, focusing on evidence-based strategies to enhance athletic performance and reduce injury risk. Through an exploration of training principles such as power, speed, endurance, and periodization—students learn to analyze sport-specific demands, monitor training loads, and utilize modern technology. By combining scientific knowledge with real-world coaching applications across micro cycles, mesocycles, and macrocycles, the course equips students with the professional decision-making skills necessary to design, implement, and evaluate effective training programs for athletes at various developmental stages.
This module develops learners' understanding of coaching practice by integrating athlete-centred approaches, athlete welfare, sport psychology, sports nutrition, and professional conduct. It covers key principles of safeguarding, mental preparation, stress and burnout management, and evidence-based nutrition to support athletic performance and recovery. In addition, the module introduces the role of multidisciplinary support teams in athlete development and performance while emphasizing the ethical and professional responsibilities of coaches in promoting safe, effective, and holistic athlete care.
